Schools

Several school districts serve Leelanau County. Characteristic profiles are available for Glen Lake, Leland, Northport, and Suttons Bay Public School Districts. In addition, three private schools are located within the county, The Pathfinder School, Lake Leelanau St. Mary School, and The Leelanau School. The Interlochen Arts Academy, an internationally renown school for academics, music theater, dance, visual art, and creative writing, is also nearby.

Colleges & Universities

You will find Northwestern Michigan College in nearby Traverse City. The main campus, located among towering pines between East and West Grand Traverse Bay offers many educational opportunities, a fine library, and a museum/theater complex with art gallery.

An extension of the college, the NMC University Center, brings baccalaureate and graduate degree programs to the community through partnerships with many of the state's universities.

Other Educational Opportunities

The Interlochen Center for the Arts offers a summer Arts Camp for 3rd - 12th graders.

The Inland Seas Education Association (ISEA) provides a floating classroom for people of all ages.

Medical Services

The Munson Health Care System encompasses one of the top 100 hospitals in the country, Munson Medical Center in nearby Traverse City offers a broad range of acute care and general nursing services at walk-in clinics in Suttons Bay and Lake Leelanau.

Shopping & Area Businesses

In addition to stores providing essentials such as groceries and hardware supplies, the small villages throughout Leelanau County offer many specialty shops and galleries. Nearby Traverse City is the shopping hub for all northwest lower Michigan. The malls, shopping centers, and wide-range of businesses offer products and services found in any medium-sized city.

News and Media

The area has many newspapers and area publications. The largest area newspaper is the Traverse City Record-Eagle. You should have no problem locating music that fits your taste among the variety of radio stations available. There are five libraries located within Leelanau County: Empire, Leelanau, Leland, Northport, and Suttons Bay. In nearby Traverse City the Traverse Area District Library and Northwestern Michigan College's Osterlin Library, provide many additional books and media resources.
